Resolution to designate redevelopers of Springwood Ave Project on agenda
The Asbury Park City Council is scheduled to meet Wednesday in council chambers at City Hall. A closed executive session will start at 5 p.m., followed by a workshop session at 6 p.m. and a regular council meeting at 7 p.m.
Public participation takes place at the beginning of the regular meeting. Items on the agenda for both the workshop and regular meeting sessions include:
• A public hearing on the 2014 municipal budget. A vote on a resolution to adopt the 2014 municipal budget may take place after the public hearing.
• A resolution to determine whether a proposed redevelopment project on the West Side, called West Side Village, addresses the housing needs of the city.
• A resolution to designate The Michael’s Organization as one of the redevelopers of the Springwood Avenue Project and to approve the redevelopers agreement between the developer and the city.
• A presentation from Neptune Mayor Dr. Michael Brantley on a shared service venture between Neptune and Asbury Park to treat an algae bloom in Wesley Lake. During the regular session, the council may vote on a resolution to enter into a shared services agreement for engineering and public works related items with the township.
• A discussion of several special event applications, including the 2014 Zombie Walk and the Asbury Park Pop Warner Cheer Bash, among others.
• Swearing-in of police chaplans Brian Major, Greg Hopson, Mark White, Llan Schanow, Audley Largie, Farah Major and Lyddale Akins.
• First reading of several ordinances, some which amend portions of the city’s revised general ordinances, one to amend procedures for expenses in connection with marriage and civil union ceremonies, and one to convey an easement over portions of the city’s right of way adjacent to 550 Cookman Avenue.
• A second reading and public hearing of ordinances that vacate several paper streets on the West Side of the city, and one to adopt an amendment to the Springwood Avenue Redevelopment Plan that addresses issues in the development area.
In executive session, the council will discuss contract negotiations with Michael’s Development Company for the Springwood Avenue Redevelopment Agreement and the sale of the old Board of Education building at 1506 Park Avenue.
