Asbury Park City Council Appoints Interim City Manager
Former Holmdel Administrator Donna M Viero Begins Work Dec 1
Donna M Viero has been appointed Interim City Manager of the City of Asbury Park. Her term begins Dec 1 at an annual rate of $165,000, a city official said.
Current Manager Michael Capabianco’s resignation was announced earlier this year via a written statement from the governing body.
Capabianco told NJ.com in a Nov 19 interview that ‘it was time he stopped working double shifts in the $145,000 a year job, in a city with a complex set of challenges and a widely varying set of constituencies whose often conflicting demands can be reflected by the elected officials who represent them.’
“It’s been four years of 16-hour days,” he said. “My wife took a new job in October that is much more demanding than it had been, and childcare is much more of an issue.”
The 43-year-old, who lives in Holmdel, said he’ll manage childcare for his 6-year-old daughter with consulting opportunities.
In a Wednesday morning written statement, the Mayor and City Council said:
“…Ms Viero, who is a city resident, previously served as the Township Administrator of Holmdel and as the Municipal Manager in Franklin Township [Somerset County]. She holds a master’s degree in public administration from Rutgers University and brings more than 20 years of municipal government/management experience to Asbury Park. Ms. Veiro is a former president of the NJ Municipal Management Association and was previously honored as ‘Manager of the Year’ in 2018.
“The Mayor and Council have become familiar with Ms Viero through her work and involvement on the City’s Budget Committee and in providing management assistance to the City for several projects earlier this year. The Mayor and Council look forward to working with Ms. Viero to facilitate moving the governing body’s important policy initiatives forward, and believe she will be a great asset to the City through the transition to a new permanent City Manager.”
