Entry Level Firefighter Announcement
A career with the Asbury Park Fire Department can be rewarding while proudly serving the citizens of Asbury Park with honor, tradition and excellence. Our department has a strong culture based on service, respect, leadership, unity, character, and moral courage.
We would like to express our appreciation for your interest in pursuing a career as a Firefighter for the City of Asbury Park. Currently the Asbury Park Fire Department conducts Firefighter hiring by utilizing a Civil Service list maintained by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission. Specific information regarding Firefighter entry level positions is available at http://www.nj.gov/csc/.
The New Jersey Civil Service Commission has recently completed a new Job Analysis (JA) for the Entry-Level Firefighter position. The job announcement will be posted on the NJCSC website beginning in early July 2015. Applications will be accepted through the end of August 2015. An orientation guide that outlines the testing process, along with ways candidates can prepare for the exam, will be available on the NJCSC website, at the time of the exam announcement. Testing is currently planned for the fall of 2015. As always, please continue to monitor the NJCSC Public Safety Testing Fire Service Status Report and their website for more information as it becomes available.
Once you have taken the civil service exam you will then be ranked according to score, and will be notified accordingly. Applicants who achieve a high ranking will be certified by the Civil Service Commission, and the hiring procedure will begin with the appointing authority as the need for additional Firefighters arises.
For those individuals currently on the existing list of eligible candidates, you will remain on that list until a new list is released, or the current list expires on or about December 12, 2015.
If you would like further information, you can contact the New Jersey Civil Service Commission directly at (609) 292-4144, or visit their website at http://www.nj.gov/csc/.
