Concert Series Kick Off Cancels Monday’s City Council Meeting
Next Meeting June 29 will include a workshop session
The Asbury Park City Council Workshop meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday has been canceled.
The cancelation was made in order to the honor the first live music performance at the newly opened Springwood Avenue Park, Mayor John Moor said.
“It’s the first live music we’ve had on the west side in years and I think that is more important,” he said.
The 7 p.m. Regular Session City Council Meeting on Wednesday, June 29, will include a workshop session, City Clerk Cindy Dye said.
The Asbury Park Music Foundation free concert series, held 6 p.m. Mondays from June 27 to Aug. 29, is sponsored in part by the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation, a private family foundation that empowers communities to transform neglected public spaces into thriving destinations through the power of free, live music.
The kick-off performance features the monocentric soul sound of Memphis based Gedeon Luke and The People [at right].
The 10 week family-friendly concerts will feature a diverse lineup of high caliber talent spanning genres like soul, doo-wop, funk and rock, organizers said.
Locally, the concert series is supported by Interfaith Neighbors, the Asbury Park Press, and New Jersey Natural Gas.
