Nine Candidates File Petitions for Three City Council Seats
Ballots will be cast for three 4-year terms in Nov 8 election
Six city residents have filed bids to challenge the Asbury Together incumbents Deputy Mayor Amy Quinn, Councilwoman Yvonne Clayton and Councilwoman Eileen Chapman for the three City Council seats up for grabs.
Voters will cast ballots for four year City Council terms in the Nov 8 election.
The prospective candidates include Daniel Harris, Doug McQueen, Tracy Rogers, Ketsia Beaubrun, Kenneth Saunders Jr, and Stephen Williams, according to Municipal Clerk Cindy Dye.
Those who have run for, held or currently hold elected public office include:
Harris, who ran unsuccessfully for City Council in 2013 as part of the A-team ticket;
Saunders, who was appointed to the Board of Education [BOE] in August 2013 and won a seat on the BOE in the Nov. 2015 election;
And Williams, who won his seat 0n the BOE in 2014.
It is unclear which of the six challengers are running as a ticket, Deputy Municipal Clerk Melody Hartsgrove said.
“We are still going through them and won’t know until Friday,” she said.
Candidates had until 4 p.m. Tuesday to file petitions for the three open seats, along with the required 100 signatures of support.
Verification of the candidates’ signatures of support are in the process of being verified, Dye said.
