Update: Asbury Park Hires Transportation Planner
Holmdel resident Manzella starts Nov. 16 at $75,000 Annual Salary
Transportation Planner/Manager, charged with overseeing the city’s transportation and parking services, has been hired, Mayor John Moor confirmed Tuesday.
Michael J. Manzella of Holmdel will begin his post on Nov. 16 at a close to $75,000 annual salary.
The City Council voted via ordinance on Aug. 12 to create the post, with a salary range of $35,000 to 90,000, not to exceed $90,072 in 2017.
The new planner’s annual salary will not exceed an estimated $80,000 in 2017, Moor said.
According to the ordinance, the Transportation Planner/Manager will oversee the city’s parking meters and facilities, pedestrian facilities and safety, bicycle and streetscape facilities, traffic control, signage and striping, and coordination with intergovernmental agencies such as NJ Department of Transportation, NJ Transportation Planning Authority and NJ Transit.
As of August, the Parking Utility took in $3.4 million in revenue, Capabianco has said.
Manzella will be responsible for oversight of the city’s transportation planning in terms of how it fits with the mobility element of the master plan, parking studies, and bicycle and pedestrian plans.
He received a Rutgers University Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy master’s of city and regional planning degree, with a concentration in transportation policy and planning in May 2014. His Engineering Management BA degree was obtained at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken.
Manzella spent 6 years with T&M Associates, leading 10 Post-Sandy Planning Assistance Grant projects; was the assistant project manager for the multi-modal redesign of Washington Street commercial corridor in Hoboken; and conducted numerous traffic impact studies, traffic analyses and parking studies for agency, municipal and private clients, according to his resume provided by City Manager Michael Capabianco.
Manzella will review all road and transportation improvements in the City and be responsible for the application of transportation related grants.
The position reports directly to Michele Alonso, the city’s Director of Planning and Redevelopment, and City Manager Michael Capabianco.
