Zoning Board Of Adjustment Member Sought
Seat, expiring December 2018, left vacant by Grillo's Resignation
The Asbury Park City Council is currently seeking application for a seat on its Zoning Board of Adjustment.
The seat became vacant with the resignation of member Joe Grillo, who has stepped down to focus attention on his seat on the Asbury Park Board of Education. Grillo is also Chair of the local Democratic Committee.
He said in resigning, he is following in BOE member Carol Jones’ footsteps.
“When Carol was on the Zoning Board and won a seat on the Board of Education, she too resigned,” Grillo said. “It’s only fair that I do the same thing. And, as a single father, I only have two hands and I don’t want to be a jack of all trades. I want to concentrate on the my seats on the BOE and the Democratic Committee.”
Grillo, whose term ends in December 2018, said it’s also an opportunity to add ‘new blood.’
“The Council has taken a thoughtful approach to selecting members of the Zoning Board, people that are professional planners, that are technical experts, and people that are looking to pursue that field as a career,” Grillo said. “I feel that leaving the Board now gives an opportunity for someone else to get involved. I’m comfortable doing so because I know that the Board is in good hands; and it’s time for new blood.”
The Zoning Board hears and decides requests for interpretation of the zoning map, and the City’s land development regulations, officials said. They meet 7 p.m. on the 2nd & 4th Monday of the month in City Council Chambers at 1 Municipal Plaza.
