No Injuries Reported In Wednesday House Fire
One adult and four children displaced from Prospect Avenue home
No injuries were reported in a Wednesday afternoon blaze that broke out in the bedroom of a home on Prospect Avenue, fire department spokesman Garrett Giberson Jr said.
When firefighters responded to the estimated 4:25 p.m. call, they found heavy smoke conditions emitting from the single family home, Giberson said.
The fire was contained and quickly extinguished at its source location in the front bedroom but the remainder of the single story home sustained heavy smoke damage, Giberson said.
“The owner of the home was sitting on the porch when she heard the smoke detectors,” he said. “It could have been much worse if she was not at home.”
One adult and four children were displaced and received placement assistance from the Jersey Coast Chapter of the American Red Cross.
The box alarm fire required response from off duty firefighters and mutual aid from from Wanamassa and Neptune fire stations. Firefighters were cleared from the scene by 5:30 p.m.
The fire, deemed accidental, remains under investigation by the Asbury Park Fire and Police departments, Giberson said.
