24-year-old Neptune City Man Faces Up To 80 Year Sentence
A 24-year-old Neptune City man faces up to 80 years for the 2012 shooting outside the former Cameo Bar on Main Street, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni announced Wednesday.
Tyrice L. Berry was found guilty of two counts of first degree attempted murder, second degree aggravated assault, second degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and second degree possession of a handgun without a permit by by an Ocean County jury.
The charges stem from a joint investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and Asbury Park Police Department in connection to the Oct 19, 2012 incident.
Officials said when the City’s patrol officers responded near 1:23 a.m. to gunshots outside of the then popular venue, they found two male victims, ages 30 and 28, had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
The men were seated in a parked vehicle when they were fired upon by two individuals, one of which was identified as Berry, officials said. They were transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune Township.
A key piece of evidence unveiled during a forensic investigation liked Berry to the crime, officials said.
Berry faces a maximum 20 years on each count of attempted murder, subject to the provisions of the No Early Release Act. He also faces 10 years for each of the aggravated assault convictions, and 10 years each for the unlawful weapons possession and for not having a permit.
Berry is slated to face his sentencing on Jan. 24 before Ocean County Superior Court Judge Rochelle Gizinski, who presided over the six-week trial. The case was prosecuted by Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Diane Aifer, and Berry is represented by Melissa Barbier of Toms River.
