City Moves Forward With Infrastructure Improvements
Main Street Sewer Upgrade Underway; On Deck Bridge & Deal Lake Drive Overhaul
The Asbury Park City Council voted to move forward with a number of road and sewer improvement projects this week.
Among them was the funding needed to launch the sewer replacement work along Springwood Avenue. Work to replace the sanitary sewer line at the NJ Transit train line, which began this week is expected to continue through month’s end, City Manager Michael Capabianco said.
And while the $797,797 sanitary sewer work was previously awarded to Lucas Construction Group, the governing body approved a $22,500 budgetary increase to cover the police detail costs mandated by NJDOT guidelines that require the work continue on a 24 hour, seven day a week timeline until its completion.
Despite the road closure, businesses along the corridor, which include High Voltage Cafe, Total Fashion Urban Boutique, and Meat n More remain open for business. Parking in the Transportation Center parking lot can be obtained via the Main Street entrance.
In other infrastructure updates, the City Council awarded T&M Associates the $229,100 contract for the redesign and complete overall of Bridge Street; one of the City’s worst corridors, according to Capabianco.
JC Contracting was awarded the bid to replace the traffic light at Springwood and Atkins avenues at a cost of $264,609.
And a $430,000 NJDOT grant will be used to reconstruct Deal Lake Avenue, from the Park Avenue bridge to the Loch Arbour border. The project will be overseen by T&M Associates, and a $1 million capital bond ordinance was introduced to cover the remaining project costs. A final vote on the spending plan is slated for the March 28 City Council meeting.
Also, final approvals were granted for a $4 million bond to fund the various infrastructure improvements and a $250,000 bond for the sewer utility improvements.
