Schlossbach Launches Non Profit Food Truck Venture
Funding Needed To Support Food For Thought By The Sea Program Aimed At Employing The Younger Generation
Local restaurateur Marilyn Schlossbach, who has launched a new initiative aimed at employing the younger generation and providing healthy food options, is asking for the community’s support.
The initiative is a specialty food truck venture that will be supported by her Food for Thought by the Sea nonprofit.
“Food for Thought by the Sea is a unique non-profit that addresses the pervasive need for employment among young adults in the Asbury Park area while supporting the missions of other nonprofits throughout Monmouth County,” according to a written statement on the crowdrise.com page. “The vehicle for this collaborative work – literally and figuratively – is the Food for Thought food truck.”
Schlossbach, who owns and operates Langosta Lounge, Pops Garage, Asbury Park Yacht Club, Russell & Bette’s, and Marilyn Schlossbach Catering and Events, helped launch Kula Cafe, a local on the job hospitality training program on Springwood Avenue administered by Interfaith Neighbors.
“Our food truck will be a staple of help and healthy food for local nonprofits, providing jobs to inexperienced youth and sustainable cuisine to the Monmouth County area,” the statement reads. “It is a social enterprise and mobile kitchen that advances collaboration within the non-profit community and bridges the gap between public awareness and financial means.”
According to the post, Penske Automotive/Land Rover Monmouth of Ocean Township has donated the food truck and $60,000 is needed to to outfit the vehicle with a cooktop, fryer, freezer, refrigerators, and sinks.
“By training, employing, and mentoring young adults and leveraging the food truck as a vehicle for good, Food for Thought will widen the circle of connectedness and sustainability in our local community,” the statement reads. “But in order to generate this good will, we need to get our food truck on the road.”
Donations are tax-deductible. For more information, visit the crowdrise.com listing by clicking here. To learn more about Schlossbach’s ventures, click here.
