Letter: A Statement from the Asbury Park Mayor and City Council
Council: A heartfelt thanks to the Crepe Shop staff, first responders & Manalapan police officer
During last night’s Council Meeting, we addressed the shooting that occurred last week on July 4th. The incident took place on Asbury Park boardwalk in the area of 1st and Ocean Avenues after the fireworks, injuring two people. Luckily, the injuries were non-life threatening.
City Council would like to thank the first responders, police and firefighters who responded immediately. They kept the situation under control and stopped it from escalating into something much worse. We are also grateful to the Manalapan Township Police Officer who was able to apprehend one of the suspects before more lives could have been negatively impacted.
We want to give a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Crepe Shop who assisted one of the victims with kindness and compassion. And to both victims—we wish nothing but the fastest of recoveries.
Guns and other forms of violence are a plague across this country, not just in our great City, and City Council denounces violence of any kind.
Additionally, we have heard rumors of other shootings in the City since the 4th of July and can confirm that no additional shootings have been reported to the police. If someone has information to the contrary, please contact the Asbury Park Police Department at 732-774-1300.
The safety of our residents and visitors is of the utmost importance to us. Please remember to contact the APPD for any suspicious activity at 732-774-1300 and press 0 for Dispatch.
