Monmouth GOP, Dems unite for relief at Stone Pony on Sunday
'We’re putting politics aside in the name of disaster relief'
This Sunday, Republicans and Democrats in Monmouth County are putting their differences aside to raise money for Hurricane Sandy relief.
“We’re putting politics aside in the name of disaster relief,” said Joe Grillo, chair of the Asbury Park Democrats and executive director of the Monmouth County Democrats, when planning began. “This is such a large catastrophe that it goes beyond politics and partisan divisions.”
The New Leaders Council New Jersey, the Monmouth County Republicans, Monmouth County Democrats, New Jersey Young Republicans and New Jersey Young Democrats will sponsor the bipartisan relief concert at the Stone Pony from 1 to 7 p.m. on Dec. 30.
The event will raise money for the Governor Chris Christie’s New Jersey Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund. The fundraiser is being held on Sunday, Dec. 30, from 1 to 7 p.m. Admission will cost $25, with tickets being sold at the door.
“Keeping with the goals of the New Leaders Council, we wanted to bridge the political divide by bringing people together to help make a difference for those in need,” New Leaders Council NJ president Justin Braz is quoted as saying in a prepared release.
Kevin McArdle of NJ 101.5 will emcee the event, which will feature bands with a speaking program in between each set featuring elected officials and dignitaries. Confirmed bands for the event include the B Street Band, the Pat Roddy Band, Joe Orlando and the Cryers, Vinny Pastore and the Crazy Horse Band and Back Up Jackson.
Attendees can bring food and cleaning supplies for donation to the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties.
