Porta, Brickwall owners to open new restaurant for summer
Owners seek liquor license extension
The owners of two popular local spots are prepping to open a new restaurant on Cookman Avenue by early summer.
The group owns Porta at 911 Kingsley Ave., the Brickwall Tavern at 522 Cookman Ave., and the Annex, which connects to the Brickwall and serves the same menu.
The new restaurant will be located in the 550 Cookman building [pictured at right], in the storefront just adjacent to The Annex, said Fredrica Vilardi, a spokesperson for the group. The owners are not disclosing the restaurant’s theme and menu at this time.
The 550 Cookman building is owned by Sackman Enterprises, the real estate company of downtown developer Carter Sackman. The art deco structure has been rehabilitated with commercial space on the ground floor and residential on two upper floors.
The new restaurant should be open by the beginning of summer, Velardi said.
The owners are seeking an extension of The Brickwall’s liquor license to cover the new spot. The city council is expected to vote on the proposed extension at its meeting next Wednesday, March 13.
The group also owns Knockout, a marketing and branding firm that operates above the Brickwall on Cookman.
