Apartment Kitchen Fire Sends Neighbor & Feline To Hospital
APFD: Occupants were not home when they responded to 4:20 am alarm
One person and a cat sustained smoke inhalation during an early morning Monday fire, Asbury Park Fire Department [APFD] officials have announced.
The APFD responded near 4:20 am Monday to an automatic fire alarm at Phillips Seaview Tower, a senior living community located at 206 First Ave.
“Upon investigation it was discovered that there was kitchen fire in an apartment on the 8th floor,” officials said in a written statement. “As lines were being stretched via the standpipe on the 7th floor members were able to force entry and knock down the fire with a couple of water cans.”
Officials said no one was home at the time of the fire but a neighbor in the adjacent apartment was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation by the APFD. One feline was also transported to GSAS for smoke inhalation.
The Wanamassa and Neptune Fire Departments, and MONOC assisted.
