APFD Reports No Injuries In Saturday Night Fire
Giberson: Firefighters Return Sunday to battle rekindled hot spots
The Asbury Park Fire Department is back on the scene of a blaze that broke out Saturday evening in two vacant buildings along Springwood Avenue and Memorial Drive, department spokesman Garrett Giberson Jr said.
“Firefighters are on the scene now for areas that have rekindled,” Giberson said. “There were no injuries.”
The fires occurred near 6:58 p.m. at 2 to 12 Memorial Drive and at 900 Springwood Ave, the former home of the People’s Ice and Coal Fuel Oil Co structure that went on to serve as a woodworking shop. The structures have been vacant for at least 15 years, Giberson said.
Mutual aid was provided by area fire departments, including Wanamassa, Neptune, Allenhurst, Ocean Grove, and Wayside stations.
The blaze is under investigation by the local fire department in conjunction with the Asbury Park Police Department, Monmouth County Fire Marshal, and Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Giberson said.
