APTV looks to expand coverage to BOE meetings
'It's always been a goal of APTV to start taping BOE meetings'
The city’s Cable Television Advisory Committee [APTV] has started negotiations with school district officials to begin taping Asbury Park Board of Education meetings.
“We’re in talks with the board of education, for the board to start having representation on APTV,” said APTC board chair John Kaplow [pictured above in the APTV studio in City Hall]. “It’s always been a goal of APTV to start taping board of education meetings.”
Since school board meetings are public meetings, permission from the school board is not required. However, Kaplow believes it is appropriate to approach the matter diplomatically and get the OK from board members first.
Ultimately, if no agreement can be made, APTV may begin to tape meetings by spring without the blessing of the school board, Kaplow said.
APTV has also secured public access channels through Cablevision and Verizon FIOs and plans to begin airing content in the months ahead. In the next two weeks, they will start accepting bulletin board announcements to run on their website, asburyparktv.org.
“It will be the first opportunity for citizens to start interacting directly with APTV,” Kaplow said.
The Cable Advisory Committee’s mission is to provide an outlet for the city’s public, government, civic, educational and nonprofit organizations to create and present programs that will be broadcast on the public access channels provided by each of the city’s cable television providers.
