Asbury Park Board of Education newcomers Joe Grillo and Eric Pinkney were sworn into office Thursday night alongside incumbent Carol Jones. The trio were the top vote-getters in the April 25 election.
The school district’s governing body unanimously reappointed Angela Ahbez-Anderson as board president and appointed Sheila Etienne as its vice president.
Outgoing Board member Felecia Simmons was recognized for service, as was former board vice president Kenneth Saunders Jr.
The Board formerly recognized Thurgood Marshall Elementary School student Jamin Chen for solving more than 60,000 problems, thereby placing him at No. 8 our of approximately 7,0000 fourth‐graders across the state who participated the online First In Math program.
Among Board of Education votes of approval Wednesday were grant applications for the following:
The 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program in the amount of $500,000 to help fund summer, after and before school programs for a period of five years.
A $200,000 Video Insight’s Surveillance Systems to Schools Security one year award for 48 software licenses, 16 surveillance cameras, and a video encoder.
And, the 2017 USTA Eastern Growing Tennis Together grant for $10,000.
The Board Of Education will hold a 6 p.m. Workshop and 7 p.m. Regular meeting on the fourth Thursday of the month, with the exception of the following meeting dates: June 29, Oct. 19, Nov. 16, and Dec. 14.
