Asbury Park Infrastructure Improvement Work Continues
Bridge & Heck Projects Begin As Main Street Road Diet Work Continues
Infrastructure improvements in Asbury Park now takes a turn toward Bridge and Heck streets, city officials have announced.
Residents should expect minor detours in the Heck Street area over the next few weeks, where road improvement work will begin, with Bridge Street construction to follow. The improvements will include new sanitary sewer mains and storm sewer infrastructure, curb and sidewalk replacements and road repaving.
“With the tremendous amount of improvements we’re making to our City’s streets, it’s a given that the work is going to be disruptive,” Mayor John Moor said in a written statement. “We need to remember that the goal is to make our streets safer and to create more efficient traffic flow. The end results will be well worth it.”
Along Main Street, the New Jersey Department of Transportation Road Diet work continues.
When complete, the corridor will feature a center two-way left turn lane with a travel lane in each direction, bicycle lanes and parking.
Crews are installing electrical wires and underground storm sewer infrastructure, city officials said. Residents are asked to use caution during the 24-hour lane and parking closures, accommodated by north and southbound lane shifts. Officials said sidewalk access will be available at all times.
Expected to be completed in Spring 2020, the project includes 18 traffic new signals with pedestrian signals, electrical utility poles replacements, curb upgrades for ADA compliance at every intersection, underground utility upgrades, drainage and lighting improvements, some sidewalk replacements, as well as repaving and restriping work.
Completed infrastructure improvements across the City include traffic signal replacements at Springwood and Atkins avenues, and at Sunset Avenue and Comstock Street.
Steiner Place, Sunset, Washington, Prospect, Park and Fourth avenues have been repaved, and traffic calming measures, including stop bars and crosswalks, have been added to improve safety at 40 intersections throughout the City.
