Asbury Park PD NJSACOP Accreditation Granted
Officials: State qualification marks high level of professionalism and quality service
The Asbury Park Police Department has received its accreditation from the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police [NJSACOP], city officials announced in a written statement.
In January, 2018 the Asbury Park Police Department passed an on-site assessment conducted by two NJSACOP examiners. The examiners checked all aspects of the Asbury Park Police
Departments policies, procedures, management and operations, local officials said.
Credited for utilizing best practices in delivering the best possible service to its residents, the NJSACOP unanimously voted in favor of granting the Asbury Park Police Department accreditation status on April 19. The hearing was attended by Deputy Chief David Kelso, Assistant Accreditation Manager Captain Guy Thompson and Accreditation Manager Sergeant Carmen Gagliano.
The accreditation process is designed to increase citizen and employee confidence
in the agency by establishing objectives, goals, policies, and practices, the written statement said. These standards are continually reviewed to ensure that the department maintains the best practices that adhere to the current law.
The accreditation will result in insurance premium discounts, greater efficiency in meeting the needs of service to the community, accountability through standard policies and written directives that will clearly define the lines of authority, decision making and resource allocation.
Officials said frivolous legal actions against the police are shown to decrease and they expect a stronger defense against lawsuits and citizen complaints.
In order to maintain its accreditation, the Asbury Park Police Department must be reviewed every three years, which will include a full on-site assessment.
The accreditation demonstrates the Asbury Park Police Department’s commitment to providing a high level of professionalism and quality service to the community, the written statement said.
