Mayor Myra Campbell and Councilman John Moor will join the planning board as new members, while city manager Terence Reidy has been reappointed to the board.
The appointment of Campbell [above center] and Reidy are by act of the mayor, which was announced at Wednesday’s council meeting. The appointment of Moor [right] is made by the council, which approved him by a 5-0 vote at the meeting.
Under state law, four classes of members serve on the planning board, according to city attorney Frederick Raffetto.
The class one member is either the mayor or the mayor’s designee. The two previous mayors — Kevin Sanders and Ed Johnson — appointed a designee, Raffetto said. Mayor Campbell elected to hold the class one position herself. She will serve for the tenure of her mayorship, or until she appoints a designee to act in her place.
Class two members are officials of the municipality other than members of the governing body, Raffeto said. The mayor appoints class two members. Campbell re-appointed Reidy to the position. He will serve until the end of the one year term for the post or until he ceases to be a municipal official. Campbell, Moor and Councilwoman Amy Quinn are expected to seek a replacement for Reidy.
The class three member of the board is a member of the governing body other than the mayor, Raffetto said. That appointment is made by the city council, which selected Moor. The term for the post is one year.
Class four planning board members are residents who are not officials in the municipal government. There are also alternate members of the board.
There are no class four positions or alternates up for appointment at this time, Raffetto said.
