Chamber looks across lake for pedal boat race competitors
Reigning champion chamber team remains undefeated
The Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce has chosen their next foes in the city’s Fourth Annual Pedal Boat Race set for Tuesday, July 29.
Representatives from the Chamber of Commerce will team up with Asbury Park city officials and administration to face off against Neptune Township Mayor Michael Brantley and Township Committee members.
The race, a team relay competition with several heats and two riders from each team per boat, starts at 6 p.m.
This year’s charity event will raise funds the Wesley Lake Commission. Limited edition T-shirts will be sold, and the proceeds will benefit the commission’s long-term lake rehabilitation plan.
“It’s a perfect rivalry,” said Jackie Pappas, the chamber’s executive director.
The reigning champion chamber team, led by Pappas, remains undefeated and has selected to ride in the swans for the fourth year in a row.
“I think they are worthy opponents, so anything can happen,” said Pappas.
Members of Team AP Chamber include Pappas, Roger Boyce of Interfaith Neighbors, Matthew Whelan and DJ Presto of the AP Chamber of Commerce, Asbury Park Deputy Mayor Sue Henderson, and Asbury Park City Manager John “Jack” Kelly.
Neptune Township Mayor Dr. Michael Brantley will lead Neptune team. His team members have not been announced yet, Pappas said.
Spectators are welcome and refreshments will be served.
The race is being sponsored by the Asbury Park Paddle Boat launch.
