City Council Regular Mtg Preview
Main St. redevelopment & needed detour route improvements on agenda
The Asbury Park City Council is scheduled to meet Wednesday in council chambers at City Hall. A closed executive session will begin at 4:30 p.m., with a workshop session to follow at 6:30 p.m. The regular council meeting begins at 7 p.m. with public participation.
The executive session will include:
An update on the vacant positions, including a search for a new city manager, clerk, and police department staffing issues is expected as well as an update to Madison Marquettes bandshell redesign project. A discussion regarding contract negotiations pertaining to the potential 1506 Park Avenue [Information Technology Center] sale and a potential deed restriction relinquishment for St. George Greek Orthodox Church on Grand Avenue, and pending litigation will complete the executive session discussions.
The regular meeting consent agenda resolutions include:
The 225 unused sick day compensation totaling $90,216.00 to be paid to retired city clerk Stephen Kay.
A Project Safe Neighborhoods $500,000 grant to ensure street crime and patrol units are positioned in high crime areas.
Special events applications for a Senior’s Valentine Brunch, the Fourth Annual Asbury Park Restaurant Tour, and an Inaugural Women’s Weekend event.
A petition for Monmouth County’s aid in reconstructing Fourth Avenue from Ridge Avenue to Memorial Drive and adjacent roadways. Officials said recent snow storms coupled with need to use the roadway as a detoured route for the Sunset Avenue Bridge Replacement project has worsened conditions in the area. They will look to petition the County for financial support to repave the roadway and parts of the neighboring Third Avenue, Comstock and Pine streets. The request will include replenishing landscaping damaged from increased bus traffic, adding a cross walk at Fourth Avenue, and replacing missing detour signs. Also up for discussion will be the loss of parking spaces and a need to add crossing guards as a safety precaution.
Also on the docket will be a bid acceptances for the Springwood Park construction as part of that areas redevelopment plan and the formal appointment of the city’s redevelopment and labor counsels.
Lastly, an amendment to the Main Street Redevelopment Plan could accommodate The Dark City Brewing Company slated at 1001 Main Street as a permitted use. A related ordinance would require developers to establish escrow accounts when they seek to amend uses in the development zones. Currently the city picks up the professional costs associated with such requests.
