City man accused of breaking into beach lot
Fenced-in location is being used as staging area for beach replen project
An Asbury Park man was arrested Saturday after a security worker allegedly saw him break into a gated area and a storage shed in the North Fisherman’s Lot on Ocean Avenue.
Dirck B. Regin of Third Avenue was spotted by security personnel monitoring the location as he entered a fenced-in lot and then broke the lock on a storage unit contained in the site, according to a criminal complaint filed by Asbury Park police.
The security guard called police to alert them, according to Asbury Park Police Capt. Marshawn Love. When police arrived on the scene, the security guard informed police that Regin got into a car and left the area, he said.
Police conducted an investigation and eventually found Regin’s vehicle, according to Love. They found burglary tools inside of the vehicle, which was near his home on Third Avenue, but did not find anything in Regin’s vehicle that may have been taken from the shed, Love said.
Regin, 51, was charged with burglary to a structure, possession of burglary tools and criminal mischief.
If the owner of the shed finds something is missing from it, Regin may be charged with other offenses, Love said.
“It was great police work by officer Dillon Gourley along with the security officer in the area that apprehended the subject,” said Love.
The North Fisherman’s lot is blocked off and is currently being used as a staging area for beach replenishment equipment by the Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company.
