City man, Highlands man, arrested in routine traffic stop
Police find drug paraphernalia, recover stolen lobsters
An Asbury Park man was arrested after a routine traffic stop Wednesday evening when police found him to be in possession of drug paraphernalia along with stolen goods he and a Highlands man had taken from a local supermarket, according to a news release from Ocean Township police.
Patrick H. Buckley of Asbury Park and Robert J. Andrews of Highlands were travelling near Rte. 35 and Sunset Avenue just after 4:30 p.m. when police say Andrews, the driver of the vehicle, failed to properly yield to traffic.
During the traffic stop, narcotic paraphernalia was seen in the vehicle by officers, according to police.
An investigation found Buckley, 47, to be in possession of seven hypodermic syringes and other narcotics paraphernalia, police said.
Two lobsters were also found in an open backpack inside of the vehicle, according to police. An investigation found the crustaceans to be the proceeds of an earlier theft at nearby Wegman’s supermarket, police said.
Andrews, 44, the driver of the vehicle, also allegedly failed to give police his correct name.
Both were arrested and taken to Ocean Township Police headquarters.
Buckley was charged with possession of hypodermic syringes, possession of narcotic paraphernalia, shoplifting and conspiracy to shoplift with another. He was transferred to Monmouth County jail in lieu of $2500 bail with no ten percent option.
Andrews was charged with hindering his own apprehension, shoplifting, conspiracy to shoplift with another and failing to yield at an intersection. He was given a complaint summons and released pending a future court hearing.
Patrolmen Christopher Brady and Nicholas Castellano were the arresting officers.
