Confections of a Rock Star webcasts for charity

He may be more famous than you, but drummer Charlie Mills [shown below] still has to do the dishes at Confections of a Rock Star.
The Skid Row musician is the latest in a line of talent to join the Cookman Avenue bakery in raising money for charity via their “More Famous than You” webcasts.
“Basically the theory behind it is I get rock stars in here, I get them to bake and then we sell the products and the profits will go to the charity of the rock stars choice,” shop owner Kimmee Masi said during the first airing featuring singer/songwriter Christine Martucci.
The veteran US Army Sergeant’s ‘Piece of Heaven,’ a baked gingerbread cake with spiked eggnog filling and frosting topped with crumbled gingersnaps, sold for $8 and yielded $436.00 for Driven By Heroes.
“There are 6,000 veterans a year in the state of New Jersey alone do not get to get to their medical appointments, so Driven By Heroes makes sure that happens,” Martucci said.
“Driven By Heroes is truly grateful to Christine Martucci for her ongoing support of our efforts,” Driven By Heroes Cofounder Diana St. John said in a written statement.
Next came Strumberry Pie’s DeeDee Montanaro’s Champagne Super Nova, a Champagne cake with raspberry and Chambord whip cream, to support Community Affairs and Resource Center.
“It’s a local charity that’s been around for more than 30 years and I just love the fact that they help people right in our own backyard,” Montanaro said.
With Mills’ Crazy Little Jar Called Love, a spin on the traditional Strawberry Shortcake came with layers of chocolate mousse to support NJ Recovery Advocates.
“It’s a grassroots, all volunteer, Jersey-based advocacy organization,” Mills said. “What we are trying to do is break down the stigma that surrounds addiction here in New Jersey.”
Future webcasts will include rock photographer Mark Weiss, who will bake for Rock It Foundation, and former Styx member Glen Burtnik, who will bake for the National Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
Confections of a Rock Star’s June 2012 opening was featured on the Food Network’s “3 Days to Open with Bobby Flay.” Located at 550 Cookman Ave, the store is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays.
