Flag presented to Clarence Clemons’s son at Stone Pony
Had been flown half-mast at State House to commemorate the musician
Representatives from Governor Chris Christie’s office presented Nick Clemons with a gift honoring his late father, Clarence Clemons, at the Stone Pony today.
The flag flew over the State House and was lowered to half-mast in memory of the elder Clemons, who played the saxophone for Bruce Springsteen and died in June 2011.
Clemons, Springsteen and their bandmates were known for having perfected their sound at The Stone Pony before they hit it big.
“It’s a historic setting,” Nick Clemons said of the Pony today. “The Stony Pony is legendary. My father spent a lot of blood, sweat and tears on this stage and helped develop a sound with Bruce that endeared them to so many people.”
Clemons [pictured, left] said the flag he received from Christie aide Richard DeRose [pictured, right] will be placed in a collection with other mementos from his father’s life.
