Former Porta Employee Confesses To Stealing Kegs
Casey: 38 Kegs valued at $5,700 were stolen; some sold to a scrap yard
A Former Porta Asbury Park employee has been charged in with the ongoing theft of beer kegs, Police Department Spokesman Sgt. Michael Casey announced in a written statement.
Ryan Kircher, 35, of Neptune City, is charged the third degree theft of property for stealing 38 empty kegs valued at $5,700 from the rear of the Kingsley Avenue eatery.
Casey said the restaurant reported the thefts and Det. Dillon Gourley was assigned the case. His investigation revealed that from April 26 to May 15 Kircher stole the kegs and was in turn selling them to Mazza’s Scrap Yard in Neptune City.
While Gourley was able to recover 14 of the kegs, and the restaurant was billed $1,200 in fines by their purveyor for unreturned kegs.
Kircher, who was interviewed Thursday by Gourley, made a full confession, Casey said. He was placed under arrest, processed, and released on a summons with a pending court date.
