Area legislators and Ocean Township Mayor will tour lake earlier in day

The Friends of Deal Lake [FoDL] board of directors are meeting Wednesday with local officials and residents active in lake restoration to discuss opportunities to protect and improve the Deal Lake watershed.
The gathering, which will take place at McGillicuddy’s Tap House, follows a meeting the FoDL has organized with Ocean Township Mayor William Larkin, Ocean Township Manager Andrew Brannen, Assemblywoman Mary Pat Angelini, Senator Jennifer Beck and others. The group will take a boat tour of the lake earlier in the day with local engineer Peter Avakian and local biologist Steve Souza, who are both consultants to the Deal Lake Commission.
Attendees will discuss opportunities to protect and improve the natural resource that serves as Asbury Park’s northern border, and to meet the FoDL board of directors, after the tour.
The Friends of Deal Lake are a collaboration of neighbors. Their mission is to “rejuvenate and preserve the lake; educate the community about this unique ecosystem; and ensure that measures are taken to restore and maintain Deal Lake for generations to come,” according to their website.
