Leashed beagle on walk attacked by two loose pit bulls
Man walking beagle bit while trying to fend off animals
A man suffered a minor laceration to his hand when he tried to fend off two loose pit bulls that attacked a dog he was walking on a leash Saturday, according to a news release from Ocean Township police.
The victim, a 37-year-old man, said he was walking his girlfriend’s beagle mix when two pit bull dogs ran out of a house they passed on the 1000 block of Grassmere Avenue in Wanamassa, the release said.
His hand was bitten when he attempted to fend off the the pit bulls as they they attacked the beagle, the release stated. Wanamassa First Aid responded but the victim refused medical attention. The beagle suffered injury to its head and ear and was taken to a private veterinarian by its owner, according to Ocean Twp. police Det. Sgt. John Green.
Crystal Beyer, 40, Ocean Township, was identified as the owner of the two pit bulls, the release stated.
Long Branch Animal Control officer Guy Little issued a 10-day in house quarantine to Beyer, the release stated. She was also found in violation of a Township Ordinance for allowing her dogs to run at large by Ocean Twp. police officer Mark Pokowski.
A follow-up investigation will be conducted by Little to determine if additional violations will be issued against Beyer.
