Mary’s Place Competes In Newman’s Own Challenge
Online Nonprofit Crowdfunding Holiday Competition Could Triple Donations
The Newman’s Own Foundation Holiday Challenge could yield thousands in added support for Mary’s By The Sea in Ocean Grove.
“Under their Recipe For Love As Newman’s Own Foundation has developed its own recipe for giving, we at Mary’s Place have developed our own Recipe for Love, in the way that we serve our guests,” Co-Founder Michele Gannon said in the written CrowdRise statement.
Through a nonprofit crowdfunding platform, Newman’s Own will donate a total of $500,000 in matching donations to participating nonprofits.
“This means that when our supporters donate to Mary’s Place through the CrowdRise platform their gift has the opportunity to be doubled, even tripled,” Gannon said. “The impact that their gift will make on our mission is indescribable.”
Founded nine years ago, Mary’s Place provides women diagnosed with cancer holistic support programs at not cost. Those programs include oncology massage, Reiki, nutritional education, guided meditation, yoga, expressive writing and counseling. To date, over 8,000 women have received respite and support at their 10 bedroom facility on Main Avenue.
“Our recipe for love would be nonexistent, if it were not for the support of our Mary’s Place community,” said Co Founder Maria McKeon. “We are asking the members of our community to help us spread the word, and make the Holiday Challenge the most impactful online fundraiser for Mary’s Place by the Sea, to date.”
Founded in 1982 by actor Paul Newman and author A.E. Hotchner, Newman’s Own food company donates 100 percent of its after-tax proceeds to charitable organizations. The Holiday Challenge runs through Jan 3, with opportunities for the nonprofit to win thousands more along the way through bonus challenges.
A total of 10 grand prize winners will be chosen with $150,000 going to the first place charity, and a total of over $100,000 awarded through weekly bonus challenges.
To date, Mary’s Place has received 180 donations totaling over $31,000.
“We are grateful for the wonderful community where we are planted, and look forward to taking on this challenge with you, for the benefit of our guests!” said Michele Gannon.
