Middle school holds pep rally for standardized testing
'Our students need to get excited about taking the NJASK next week'
The Asbury Park Middle School is ready for next week’s NJASK tests to begin, and students and staff celebrated during a pep rally on Thursday, May 2.
“Our students need to get excited about taking the NJASK next week,” Superintendent Denise Lowe said in a prepared release. “I am confident that they will do well because both students and staff have worked very hard this year, and they are ready for it.”
Lowe encourages the students to “relax and take any stress or nerves and turn [them] into a positive attitude,” she said.
Tanya Peterson led the Asbury Park Middle School band at the rally. English teacher Melvin Harris introduced the members of the student body council, who reminded students of some tips to get ready for the test.

The middle school choir, led by music teacher Yvette Friedman, also inspired students by singing, “Don’t Stop Believin'” by Journey. Students and staff also were surprised by an impromptu Harlem Shake dance.
The middle school’s NJASK scores from last year were recently published as part of the state-issued school report card.
