Monmouth Dems recognize ‘Women in History’
'Tonight, we celebrate our Democratic sisters who are truly history-making women in New Jersey'
March is Women’s History Month, and the nine-month-old Monmouth County Democrats Women’s Caucus is holding an event at Watermark tonight to promote the women of their party.
“Together, we are fighting against gender inequality and political oppression,” said co-chair Patricia Teffenhart-Maikos of Holmdel in a prepared release. “Anyone who discounts the strength and determination of the Monmouth County Democrats hasn’t met the Women’s Caucus.”
“Tonight, we celebrate our Democratic sisters who are truly history-making women in New Jersey,” Co-chair Retha Onitiri of Millstone is quoted as saying in the release.
The “Women in History” fundraiser begins at 6 p.m. at Watermark, 700 Ocean Ave., and the cost of admission is $30. All proceeds benefit the Monmouth County Democratic Organization.
Among the guest speakers are Democratic Candidate for Governor Barbara Buono, State Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg, Assemblywoman Gabriela Mosquera and Janice Kovach, mayor of Clinton.
The Monmouth County Democratic Women’s Caucus was established to help increase the political voice of Democratic women within every level of government, according to a prepared release from the organization. In the nine months since its inception, the caucus has grown into a political force of more than 100 members who hold regular monthly meetings and support Democratic women candidates throughout the county.
