Moor: Vote no on April 20 rent control referendum
Asbury Mayor says city's recently-adopted rent control is the better plan
To the Editor, Asbury Park Sun:
On April the 20th there is a local Asbury Park election regarding rent control. In November of 2020 the petitioners submitted a proposed Ordinance with enough signatures to have a vote on their proposal. I truly thank the petitioners for bringing this subject to the front burner, something the Council had already started to work on.
The Council studied the proposal and thought it was a start but not a finished product for several reasons. The Council then under a tight time frame worked with our professionals to tweak or fix several points in the proposed Ordinance.
I truly believe the working committee and the Council as a whole have ADOPTED a better Ordinance than what was originally proposed. Again I ask you to vote NO on the 20th.
I also ask all to realize the Sun will come up on the 21st, and we are not out of the woods yet on the Pandemic. Please all stay vigilant, continue to social distance and continue to wear masks whenever possible.
Mayor John Moor
Asbury Park
