NJ Environmental Focus Group Participants Sought
Oxford Graduate Student Places Call To Jersey Shore Residents
An Oxford University graduate student is putting out the call for Jersey Shore residents to participate in an environmental study focus group, taking place July 14 and 15 in Eatontown.
Aviela Hochberg is a Jersey Shore native pursuing an advanced degree in Nature, Society and Environmental Governance at the United Kingdom university.
Hochberg’s environmental study also touches on socio-economic concerns and how they influence one’s risk perception.
“I am really interested in public perception, but more so what formulates public perception; for example to what degree is it political belief, hazard experience, etc,” the 23 year-old said. “I am exploring how multiple factors interact and influence one another in determining how people formulate opinions when facing great uncertainties, for example does your experience reaffirm your political beliefs or do your beliefs filter how you interpret and understand your experience.”
Her call for participation is particularly for Asbury Park, Brielle, Belmar, Point Pleasant Beach, and Point Pleasant Borough residents but those throughout Monmouth and Ocean County are welcome.
Interested residents, 18 and older, can fill out a recruitment survey that touches on everything from Superstorm Sandy damages and effects to government’s role in an individual’s daily life, equal rights, discrimination, and the nation’s distribution of wealth.
Data collected will be held securely and will not be used for any other purpose, Hochberg said. Taking part in the survey does not guarantee that you will be invited to participate in the focus groups.
Chosen focus group participants will be paid $10 for their time, snacks and refreshments will be provided, but no travel reimbursements will be made.
