The Asbury Park Fire and Police departments immediately responded to a multi-alarm fire that broke out near 3 p.m. Monday afternoon at a Park Avenue home and quickly spread to neighboring units.

According to a city official there is one fatality. At least one woman was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune and at least three dogs were rescued from the row of townhomes.

Smoke could be seen billowing in the sky from blocks away and neighbors quickly lined a one block radius.

Mayor John Moor said three of the 8 townhomes were owned by former City officials James Famularo and Jimmy Condos, and Randy Thompson.

By 4:30 p.m. the Asbury Park Fire Department, with assistance from Wanamassa, Neptune, and other fire departments, were able to contain the blaze.

This is a breaking news story and more information [and official details] is expected.
