The Asbury Park Police Department is reaching out to the public with its new website at asburyparkpd.com.
The department occupied a section of the town’s website until they recently decided to maintain a separate online presence. Their new site is still under construction but currently provides citizens with the opportunity to send anonymous tips to the department.
“We wanted to set up a tip line for people so they can provide information anonymously if they want to … about different activity in the city,” Chief Mark Kinmon said. “A lot of people do everything through the computer these days and we felt like this was an easy way for people to provide information [to the department].”
In the future, asburyparkpd.com will keep the public apprised of what’s going on in town, from traffic alerts to crime information.
“If we see a surge [in crime], we can put that online and make the public aware this is going on,” the chief said.
The department will also post photos and information about the various special outreach programs they provide and events they attend — “not just the traditional enforcement end of policing,” Chief Kinmon said.
“It’s a means for [citizens] to obtain accurate information from the police department,” he said. “It informs the public of who we are, where they can contact us and what they’re doing.”
