Quick Med Pharmacy opens up on Main Street
Location will offer inexpensive medicines and fast, friendly service
A new pharmacy whose goal is to fill prescriptions in 10 minutes or less has opened up on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Main Street.
“That is the bottom line — our goal is to get the service quick,” said Kiran Venigalla, head pharmacist at the location.
If a certain medication is not on-site, Quick Med would have it filled by the next day whereas larger pharmacies might take 3 days to fill a prescription if the medication is not readily available, he said. The local pharmacy is also looking to beat out their competition by offering a lower price point, selling many generic prescriptions at $4 each, he said.
Venigalla previously spent “about 6 or 7” years working as a pharmacist in a nearby pharmacy a few blocks away, he said.
Being familiar with the area and the getting to know the customers personally is something he takes pride in, he said. A few store fronts away on Fifth Avenue, North End Pharmacy recently closed down and all of the prescriptions were sold to the nearby pharmacy, according to Venigalla, who is hopeful they will bring their business back to the area when they see Quick Med is now open.
The local pharmacy will soon offer delivery services [they are in search of a driver] up to “20 or 30 miles away” since Quick Med’s owner, Vivek Bhatt, also owns the Drug Mart in South Plainfield and the two pharmacies can work together to fill the prescription needs of customers in the area, Venigalla said.
The store also stocks over-the-counter medication, toiletries, convenience items, home medical supplies and some non-perishables food items, but a lot of the space is yet to be filled.
“We have a lot of space, we’re trying to find out what to stock,” said Venigalla.
For now, they are paying attention to the needs of their customers.
“What people ask for, we add,” he said.
An additional 3 or 4 employees will be hired within the next 6 months, and store owners are aiming for a February grand opening, Venigalla said.
Quick Med Pharmacy is located at 1221 Main Street [at the corner of Fifth Avenue]. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The location is closed on Sunday.
