Road And Utility Improvement Work Continues In Asbury Park
Ongoing $4 Million Project Causes Detours Along Sunset, Main, & Fourth
This week, the City of Asbury Park will continue its sewer/water upgrades and road repair work, causing some detours and road closures.
Last week we saw the completion of the long anticipated Webb Street repaving [at right before and after].
“The City was able to secure funds to repave Webb Street as a temporary fix as part of a long term road improvement program,” Communications Director Sonia Spina said.
The road improvement projects are a part of a larger infrastructure improvement program, using $3 million in City funds through its Capital Improvement Program and an additional $1 million in NJDOT grants which date back to 2010.
This year, the focus of the road improvements have included areas along Main, Webb, and Bergh streets, as well as along Cookman, Sunset, Prospect, and Fourth avenues.
This week, an Asbury Park Police Department travel advisory was issued for the following areas:
Along Main Street, water/sewer upgrades continue between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.
On Fourth Avenue between Memorial Drive to Ridge Avenue from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Along Sunset Avenue from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
City Manager Michael Capabianco said Asbury Avenue is set to be repaved in the spring.
The Main Street Road Diet work is expected to begin in the spring, Consultant Jason Harzold T&M Associates has said. Once complete, the work moves on to the Springwood Avenue rail crossing, expected to be complete by February’s end.
New Jersey American Water will foot the bill for milling and paving work along Bridge Street between Fifth and Sunset avenues; half of Locust Drive, all of Jeffrey Street between Locust and Fifth Avenue and half of Fifth between Bridge and Locust, Harzold has said. The utility has been replacing storm sewers, curbs and handicapped ramps.
Capabianco said the work is a temporary solution until the City can begin a full reconstruction of Bridge Street, expected to begin next year.
