Sewage scammers on the loose in Ocean Township
Fake email alert says a sewage authority payment is due
Ocean Township residents should be on the alert for scammers seeking bogus sewer bill payments via a fake payment reminder, according to a statement issued by the Township of Ocean Police Department.
On Friday, a township resident reported that they received an email requesting payment for their sewer bill with an attached link, according to the police statement. The email was from “doxo.” A photo of the email provided by the department is shown at right.
“Ocean Township Sewer Authority does NOT use any websites or third parties claiming to be a payment reminder,” according to the police statement. “Payments or bills are done only through the mail. This is a fraudulent email and scam. Please do not respond to the email if you receive it. If you have any questions or concerns about your bills please contact the appropriate township department and speak to them directly.”
