As parents’ focus shift to back to school preparation, the local Boys and Girls Club on Monroe Avenue has organized a Community Block Party that just may help relieve some of the to list, along with a touch of fun.

To be held from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday [rain date Sunday], it will be a goal realized for the local Skate Asbury team through their Skateboarding Foundation.

Looking to share the benefits of their years of experience with the city’s youth, the Asbury Park Skateboard Foundation [APSF], is a grassroots nonprofit who partnered with the national Boards for Bros to collect and rebuild used skateboards for the city’s youth.boys and girls club-scaled

The result will be newly refurbished skateboards given to those who register with the Monroe Avenue located Boys and Girls Club of Monmouth County [shown at right].

Headed by Brian Watkins and Derek Rinaldi, APSF has proposed the building of a city skate board park in order to conduct clinics, special events, and give riders a safe venue to practice. A temporary location will be located at the Carousel building.

Saturday’s Back to School Community Block Party is also being held in partnership with Kula Cafe, iStar Financial, and The Asbury Park Community Development Initiative, organizers said.

The event will include skateboarding demonstrations, as well food and refreshments, games, a DJ and hip hop performances.
