The Sun’s City Council Preview
Parking, Meters, Bike Share, Road Improvements, West and East Side Housing Development On Agenda
The Asbury Park City Council is scheduled to meet Wednesday in Council Chambers at City Hall, located at 1 Municipal Plaza.
There will be a 4:30 p.m. closed executive session. The public meetings begin at 6 p.m. with a workshop session and is followed by the 7 p.m. Regular City Council Meeting. Public participation takes place at the beginning of the regular meeting.
Items on the agenda include:
• Executive session discussions regarding the hiring of police officers, property acquisition, and contract negotiations pertaining to Sackman Enterprises’ parking agreement, 1003 Bond Street’s easement request, and Asbury Partners/iStar’s parking agreements.
• The Workshop features a City Manager’s Report on Issues Raised at Prior Council Meeting, Special Event Applications Review by Leesha Floyd, a review items on the regular session agenda, and matters by the governing body and city officials.
• During the Regular meeting votes will be made on budgetary matters, five special event applications, liquor license renewals, a $3.65 million bond to cover various road, parking, and sewer improvements, and a $22,125 Regional Contribution Agreement for improvements at 1421 Mattison Ave.
• Votes will be taken for a Cops-In-Shops/Summer Shore Initiative grant submission to support costs for the June 23 through September 30 time frame, the acceptance of the 2017 Community Development Block Grant totaling $290,899.
• The City Council will vote on (re)appointments to the Sunset Lake Commission. They include Patrick Reihing, Mark Ax, Jaimee Nadell, and Randi Moore for terms expiring June 30, 2019.
• Also on the agenda, are votes pertaining to the purchase a building department vehicle, 12 new parking meters, the finalization of the bike share program agreement, and an easement agreement for the Michael’s Group Renaissance Village project at Springwood and Sylvan avenues.
• Four ordinances will be introduced. They include an adjustment to the Sunset Lake Commission’s terms of service; delineating a handicapped parking spot along the 1,000 block of Sewell Avenue; an air rights agreement associated with the 700 Bangs Ave project’s overhangs on the second to fourth residential floors facing Bangs Avenue and Bond Street; and transforming Heck Street between Fifth and Lake avenues to a one way street in the southerly direction.
• The public will have an opportunity to ask questions and make comments prior to the final votes for prohibiting the sale of puppy mill animals within city limits; the addition of 15-minute parking stalls along Fourth Avenue near Juice Basin and Fifth Avenue near the pharmacy; and vacating an 15-foot alley east of Dunlewy Street.
