Grant Awards & Applications, Sustainable Protection, & Opposition to Senate OPRA Bill on Agenda
The Asbury Park City Council will meet Wednesday in Council Chambers at City Hall, located at 1 Municipal Plaza.
There will be a 4 p.m. closed executive session. The public meetings begin at 6 p.m. with a workshop session and is followed by the 7 p.m. Regular City Council Meeting. Public participation takes place at the beginning of the regular meeting.
Items on the agenda include:
• Executive Session discussions regarding tax appeal litigation
• During the Workshop Session, there will be a review of 12 special event applications and the regular meeting agenda, as well as 2017-18 Best Practices.
• The Regular Session meeting will include votes on budgetary matters, including the following:
Acceptance of boardwalk redveloper Madison Marquette’s $75,000 contribution for police details
A $946 NJ Dept of Law and Public Safety Drunk Driving Enforcement Grant
A $52,242 US Dept of Justice Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant
A $1,431 Rotary Club of Asbury Park donation to the City’s Fire Department
Cancellation of interest and penalties associated waterfront redeveloper iStar’s Monroe project [below right], located at 601 Heck St, stemming from delays and bill corrections prepared and reviewed by a third-party consultant
The cancellation of taxes assessed on City owned properties from 2009 to 2017
Submission of a grant application to the NJ Dept of Transportation for Memorial Drive improvements between Asbury and Sixth avenues and for wayfinding and gateway signs within the Transit Village designation, which includes Memorial Drive and Main Street from Boston Way to Summerfield Avenue, extending from Bangs Avenue to Atkins Avenue along Springwood Avenue.
A $42,350.00 award to T&M Associates for repairs to the Fire Department’s bay door to ensure structural integrity of the Main Street building
The municipality’s renewal of its animal control contract with the SPCA for a base award of $56,400
• The City Council will vote on a resolution expressing opposition to Senate Bills 1045 and 1046, which shifts the guidelines of the Open Public Meetings and Record acts, saying, in part, that it is financially burdensome; fails to protect taxpayers, municipalities and, especially, municipal clerks from abusive, harassing, and purposefully confrontational individuals who submit voluminous requests for no legitimate reason; and creates impractical and burdensome requirements with respect to ad hoc subcommittees and working groups’ ability to discuss issues of public concern for the sole purposes of informing the governing body.
• And, with regard to sustainable initiatives, a vote will be held on the support of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Ocean Action Plan [OAP], which aims to explore and adopt collaborative and coordinated federal, state and local government practices in protection of the ocean’s ecosystem.
• Lastly, there will be a vote regarding Zoning Board appointment(s).
