On agenda: Springwood Ave. redevelopment plan amendments
The Asbury Park City Council is scheduled to meet Wednesday in council chambers at City Hall. A closed executive session will start at 5 p.m., followed by a workshop session at 6 p.m. and a regular council meeting at 7 p.m.
Public participation takes place at the beginning of the regular meeting. Items on the agenda for both the workshop and regular meeting sessions include:
• A presentation by Don Sammet on proposed amendments to the area of the Springwood Avenue Redevelopment Plan. City council members may later vote on a resolution to refer the proposed amendments to the city’s planning board for review and acceptance.
• A vote on a resolution to appoint/re-appoint three residents and a council representative to the city planning board.
• A presentation from Ramona Thorton of the Faith Based Initiative Group on a job training grant from the workforce investment board.
• A vote on a resolution to renew 41 liquor licenses for another year, from July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015.
• The council will discuss and vote on several special event applications. Returning events include the 7th Asbury Park Ocean Mile Swim Race and Family Day at the Beach. New events include a canoe race sponsored by the Cameo bar, an outdoor film screening and fundraiser and yoga on the beach.
• A presentation from Freeholder Tom Arnone on a county program that provides CDBG grant funds to assist local businesses with façade improvements and replacement of deteriorated commercial signs and awnings.
• A department update from the city’s Recreation Director, Leesha Floyd.
• A resolution to award a contract to a company for maintenance of the city’s parking pay stations.
• A resolution to amend temporary budget appropriations for the 2014 fiscal year.
• Introduction of two ordinances, one to revise the administration of the city’s revised general ordinances and another to amend and supplement a chapter of the city’s revised general ordinances.
• Two public hearings will take place prior to the city council’s final vote on two ordinances, one establishes a parking space at 1130 Monroe Ave., and another secures the payment of principal on bonds issued by the Monmouth County Improvement Authority.
In executive session, the council will discuss personnel matters involving recent hires, an amendment to the waterfront parking agreement and union contract negotiations.
