Vote on Monroe Condo project, craft distillery on agenda
The Asbury Park City Council is scheduled to meet Wednesday in council chambers at City Hall. A closed executive session will start at 5 p.m., followed by a workshop session at 6 p.m. and a regular council meeting at 7 p.m.
Public participation takes place at the beginning of the regular meeting. Items on the agenda for both the workshop and regular meeting sessions include:
• A vote to amend the Central Business District [CBD] redevelopment plan to allow a craft gin and whiskey distillery to operate downtown, referring the matter to the city’s planning board. The current plan prohibits light manufacturing in the CBD.
• A vote to grant waterfront redeveloper iStar Financial conceptual approval on the Monroe Condominium project, referring the matter to the city’s planning board.
• A vote to authorize the city to enter into a Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency agreement for a payment in lieu of tax [PILOT] program for a redevelopment project on Springwood Avenue called The Renaissance.
• A vote to enter into a shared services agreement with the Borough of Bradley Beach for public works related goods and services.
• A vote to award $22,500 in Community Development Block Grant [CDBG] funds to Jersey City-based Metro Company to enter into a contract for assistance in preparing the city’s five-year CDBG Consolidated Plan for the Feb. 28 submission deadline to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
• A vote to amend the redeveloper agreement between the city and Springwood Avenue Redeveloper The Michaels Organization and to include the vacated portions of paper streets as lots to be included in the Springwood Avenue redevelopment project called The Renaissance.
• A vote to authorize submission of three grant applications to the New Jersey Department of Transportation for road improvements to Sunset and Fourth avenues, and for traffic signal improvements on Asbury Avenue near Prospect Avenue.
In executive session, the council will discuss contract negotiations with Springwood Avenue redeveloper The Michaels Organization on a payment in lieu of tax [PILOT] agreement for The Renaissance development on Springwood Avenue, tax sale cancellation and amendments to the Springwood Avenue Redevelopment Agreement. They will also discuss a PILOT agreement for the Kinmouth Building and contract negotiations for the potential sale of the Park Avenue Firehouse to the Asbury Park Board of Education.
