Snow rules, Housing Authority Donation, and Applications for Boards and Committees
The light snow dusting that landed overnight may be just a hint of things to come and in time to take note of the Asbury Park City Council’s snow removal guidelines, announced this week.
In its simplicity, alternate side of street parking will take effect the day after a heavy snowfall, City Manager Michael Capabianco said.
Residents are being asked to park on the odd side of city streets on the first day following the end of a snow storm to allow public work employees to clear the even side of city roads from curb to curb, Capabianco [at right] said. And on day two, residents should park on the even side of city streets.
“This will allow our department to clean the streets in a timely manner,” Capabianco said. Email blasts and Nixle alerts will be sent out to let residents know when the alternate side of street parking rules take effect.
In other news, the Asbury Park Housing Authority donated four iPads valued at $500 each to the Asbury Park Police Department during Wednesday’s City Council meeting. The iPads will be used to view real time links to the 100 cameras within Housing Authority properties.
“They can actually see what is going on as they are going to the car or riding down the street Housing Authority Commissioner Gregory Hopson Sr said. “I’m sure everyone is aware of the amount of shootings we have had in Asbury Park; this is just our way of saying we want to help.”
Lt. John Crescio accepted the mobile devices on behalf of the police department and thanked the Housing Authority for the donation.
During the meeting’s public session, Asbury Park Little League President Daniel McKee thanked the Mayor and City Council for the $2,500 contribution that will be used to support sending city kids to the Little League camp in Williamsport, Pa. McKee said as many of 21 have been sent in one season to the ‘home of Little League Baseball.’
Property owners should take note of pending changes to the municipal Property Management Improvement and Neighborhood Preservation rules.
Having passed on its first reading Wednesday, the public will have a chance to ask questions and make comments regarding the changes, which include clearing graffiti with in five day vegetation from its previously allowed 60 day time frame; clearing vegetation from intersection will move from 10 days to 48 hours.
The City Council has cancelled its scheduled Dec 27 Workshop meeting. The Regular Session meeting will be held 7 p.m. Dec. 28 in Council Chambers at 1 Municipal Plaza.
The City Council will hold its annual organizational meeting at 2 p.m. Jan. 1. The meeting resets appointments to open seats on city boards and committees, professional appointments and the 2017 meeting calendar.
Applications are currently being accepted for the Planning and Zoning boards, APTV, Code Enforcement/Quality of Life, CDBG Committee, Public Arts Committee, Parking Committee, Recreation Committee, Wesley Lake Commission, and Deal Lake Commission. Applications are available via the City’s website and are due by day’s end Monday, Dec. 19.
On Wednesday, the City Council voted to add two new seats to its Planning Board.
