Three Asbury Park musicians to participate on jazz panel
Trott, Parreott and Johnson share stories as Leidersdorff moderates
Three of Asbury Park’s native sons will share their recollections of city’s jazz scene from the 1940s to today in a panel discussion held at the old Oakhurst School in Ocean Township in March, according to a release from the Ocean Township Historical Museum.
The event is the next in the Ocean Township Historical Museum’s Speaker Series and augments its major exhibit at The Eden Woolley House, “Asbury Park: The History of a Jersey Gem.”
Organ virtuoso Gladstone Trott; music educator, keyboardist and horn player Dorian Parreott; and saxophonist Clifford Johnson will tell stories of growing up as musical prodigies in a city famous for its music. During the talk they will discuss the men and women who nurtured their talents and the legendary churches and clubs where they heard and played the music they love, the release stated.
Musician and music producer John Leidersdorff will moderate the discussion. Leidersdorff owns the Lakehouse building in Asbury Park, home to Lakehouse Music’s recording studio, rehearsal space and music academy.
The discussion takes place Tuesday, March 11 at 7:15 p.m. in the Old Oakhurst School auditorium, located at 163 Monmouth Road in Oakhurst. For more information on the event and related Museum exhibit, visit oceanmuseum.org.
Asbury Park: The History of a Jersey Gem remains on exhibit through the spring. The Woolley House is open Tuesday through Thursday, 1 to 4 p.m.; Thursday evenings, 7 to 9 p.m.; and the first and second Sundays of the month, 1 to 4 p.m.
Admission is free, but donations are welcome, to both the panel discussion and Woolley House exhibit.
