TriCityNews: Madison plans Convention Hall and Casino rehab
Project requires federal and state tax credits. Paper estimates total costs at approx $130 million
The triCityNews is reporting in its April 13 issue that boardwalk redeveloper Madison Marquette plans to rehabilitate Convention Hall and the Casino. (Rendering of proposed Casino rehab shown at top.)
Convention Hall would become a state-of-the-art 3,500 capacity venue. The Paramount theater and the arcade area in the Convention Hall complex would also be rehabilitated. Cost estimate for the full Convention Hall rehab is $90 million, which includes sealing the building from the elements, according to Madison Marquette.
Madison Marquette also plans to reconstruct the Casino building, adding an outdoor amphitheater with a capacity of 5,000. The Stone Pony Summer Stage would move to the Casino. The historic Stone Pony will remain in its current location.
“The end game is to have one of the most incredible world-class destinations for everything — music, art and other entertainment,” Madison Marquette executive Gary Mottola told the triCityNews. “Every place wants to do this, but you can’t do this from scratch. We have such a head start, in terms of our culture, history and what we already have: historic buildings on the beach and the uniqueness of Asbury Park.”
In addition, Madison plans various improvements to the green areas of the boardwalk and the expansion of its outdoor art program.
The triCityNews estimates that the total cost of all the improvements, including the $90 million for Convention Hall, is approximately $130 million.
The ambitious project will require Madison obtaining two tax credits from the state and one from the federal government.
