Volunteers needed for voting, recreation and Belmar cleanup
Ocean Grove beach clean up slated for 10 a.m. tomorrow
The city of Asbury Park put out a call for volunteers earlier this week after Hurricane Sandy hit, and more than 100 people turned out to help.
Aid is needed for manning voting booths; overseeing recreation and helping with cleanup and other duties in Belmar. A beach cleanup in Ocean Grove is slated for 10 a.m. tomorrow.
City residents Joe Grillo, Joe Woerner, Jim Keady and Bret Morgan have been helping to coordinate volunteer efforts.
“I’d suggest anyone that is in good shape gas- and food-wise, if they want to help, they should get there around 10 a.m.,” Grillo said today. “There is a hot food station at the Senior Center and Interfaith Neighbors is dishing out about 600 hot meals per day.”
Grillo advises only those who have enough food or gas for themselves to volunteer.
The nearby boroughs of Belmar and Lake Como are in need of volunteers, Grillo said. Volunteers will likely help with distributing information to residents, as well as other duties. People who want to help there should report to Belmar borough hall, between Main and Sixth avenues, at 10 a.m. every day.
Volunteers are also needed to help with recreation activities for the city’s children because they are still out of school. Recreation is scheduled at the Prospect Courts from 1 to 4 p.m. tomorrow.
Voting will take place in mobile voting booths on Tuesday, and volunteers are needed to oversee the voting and also tell people who show up to their regular polling locations about the nearby trailers.
A beach clean-up will be held in Ocean Grove at 10 a.m. tomorrow, as well, although we were unable to determine the exact meeting location.
