The proposed changes to the Asbury Park parking guidelines have been posted on its municipal website.
Presented during Monday night’s meeting, the new guidelines call for a hike in weekend metered parking rates in the business district and along the waterfront but a reduction in day rates in parts of the business district.
Asbury Park City Manager Michael Capabianco said the changes are based on demand pricing and a goal of maintaining an 85 percent occupancy rate.
The city’s peak season will be defined as May 15 through Sept. 15 with the remainder of the year falling into the off peak category, he said.
“The most important aspect is that the [Parking Advisory] Committee felt their needed to be some component of demand pricing,” Capabianco said. “It will create demand parking pricing so the prices can go up or down or stay the same [based on need].”
If changes are adopted by the City Council, metered parking rates will reduce to .75 cents per hour from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday along Bangs Avenue and in the business district spots outside of Cookman Avenue corridor during the peak season. Those spots will remain at $1 per hour.
Metered rates will rise to as much as $3 per hour during the 5 p.m. to 12 a.m. Monday through Friday evening hours and Saturday and Sunday. For details visit the municipality’s website.
In the waterfront area, weekday rates remain the same but will rise to $2 per hour from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m. Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday during the peak season. Rates will rise to $3 per hour along Ocean Avenue during the same time frame.
Off peak rates in the waterfront area remain the same during the off peak season.

Changes to the Parking Permit guidelines will be introduced as an ordinance during the City Council’s Dec. 23 meeting.
A final hearing to allow members of the public to ask questions and make comments prior to a final vote will be held on January 13, with the 2016 Parking Permits on sale starting January 15 and in effect beginning Feb. 1.
